Driver handling in previous betas and beta 2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed several beta builds of Vista before and I've never encountered problems with my basic hardware drivers (I mean by that network/graphics/sound adapters). Other drivers or some applications couldn't be installed but at least I could smoothly run the OS.

With the beta 2 build, my network adapter isn't usable and other hardware drivers can't install succesfully. I won't give details about my hardware because it's not my point.

What I want to know is if Microsoft changed the way drivers are handled or if it is the install process that has changed. Do I need now to install them with a certain compatibility mode or in a particular context ?

I'd like to know that because if Microsoft changed the way drivers are recognized I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to use Vista in the future (as hardware manufacturers will prefer to sell new products than support the older ones).
