Installing a new hard drive on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can anyone assist me? I am trying to install a second hard drive onto my PC. I am running Windows 7. The PC will detect the PC but then gets stuck in "Search preconfigured driver folders..."

    Additional information if it helps.

The hard drive is a Western Digital WD15EARS-00MVWB0 ATA Device.

I can detect the hard drive using device manager in the Disk drives, where it states the device is working properly and that drivers do not need updating (the driver is a Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385) but i cannot see the hard drive when I look in Computer/Hard Disk Drives (where only my original disk drive is displayed).

    Many thanks in advance.

  • You need to go into Disk Management and assign a drive letter.  If it hasn't been formatted yet you'll need to partition and format it there first.
