very slow eSATA disk; duplicate PhysicalDisk counters -- related? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My nice fast (usually >50 MBps) eSATA hdd is reporting >100% utilization when writing at 3 MBps

Also, when troubleshooting I noticed that in Performance Monitor, under PhysicalDisk, I see two counters for this disk: F: and F:#1.

    Could these issues be related?

My system disk (an SSD) has four counters listed: C: D:, C: D:#1, C: D:#2, C: D:#3, but it seems to be performing fine...

BTW, the eSATA disk has removal policy: write cache enabled (in Device Manager)

this is a laptop; so, no multipath IO

works fine (>50 MBps) on my other laptop. i don't think this is VSS-related because I've detached and reattached the disk, right?
