Windows Task Manager Strange Filename - How proceed? RRS feed

  • Question

  • A file called DWEAUIJUZXKNLTQ.exe is listed in the Windows Task Manager.  What steps should I begin to take to understand if it is harmless or needs to be removed? Thanks for any help!

    - have run Malwarebytes software and Windows security essentials is runs upon startup. None of these said anything about that file.

    - file uses 4,000 k to 50,000 k

    - uses 0% to 4% of cpu

    - file name is all caps (listed in SYSTEM)

Again thanks for any help and sorry if it's a silly question.

  • Perform a full antivirus/antispyware scan of your system.
Download and run Autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902) to get a complete list of all the services and process loaded and executed at the system startup: you'll get the path of this strange file and you'll be able to delete it if necessary.

    Bye.
