Grant user the ability to manage contacts - Exchange 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to grant a user the ability to create contacts and modify distribution lists in Exchange 2007 but do nothing else? This user cannot have direct access to the Exchange server.

    Thanks

  • This user cannot have direct access to the Exchange server.

Would indirect access be more acceptable?

You could install Exchange managment tools on a client machine.

However, the person would still need to be member of (at least) Recipient Administrators and then (I think) Account Operators to manipulate contact objects.

But... those rights would allow them to manage much more than contacts only.

Exchange 2010 is another story (with RBAC) but since you're on E2K7, that does not really help.

  • I don't think if you can limit the access to creating contacts.

You can allow a user to manage the Distribution and Modify it by going into the properties of the distribution list.

  • Hi

Is it possible to grant a user the ability to create contacts and modify distribution lists in Exchange 2007 but do
    nothing else?

You can read this blog about how to set it.  3rd party softwarecan do it too.

This user cannot have direct access tothe Exchange server.

It is difficult. You can just block itlog on your exchange server.
