Hyper V RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi i am not unfamiliar with Hyper V as i am only learning about this topic. There are a few question i have in regards to Hyper V.

    * What utility (application) do i need to use to test the hardware as i am currently using Windows 8.1?

    * What 2 application can i use to test if the PC hardware will support Hyper -V?

    * How do i run the Hyper-V test application that will display the result in GUI?

    * What is the command line for running  Hyper-V test application?

    Thanks in advance.

  • You need the Pro version of Windows 8.1 for Hyper-V.

Coreinfo will do what you need: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc835722.aspx

run "coreinfo -v" from a command prompt

    You'll get results like this:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU       X 980  @ 3.33GHz
    Intel64 Family 6 Model 44 Stepping 2, GenuineIntel
    HYPERVISOR      -       Hypervisor is present
VMX             *       Supports Intel hardware-assisted virtualization
EPT             *       Supports Intel extended page tables (SLAT)

If that's what you see, you can use Hyper-V
