MS Project Actual Hours by Resource RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Our MS Project Server is set up with about 100 different projects. Each one has a WBS, and each WBS has resources assigned to it. It could have a single resource, or multiple resources. I want to find a simple way to import the actual hours worked by each resource on each WBS from Excel to MS Project automatically.

    For example...

    WBS 1 has Resources 1, 4, 6, 8

    Resource 1 - 10 hours

    Resource 4 - 2 hours

    Resource 6 - 12 hours

    Resource 8 - 6 hours

Right now, the import data ability allows me to do it as a total amount of hours, so for WBS 1 I can automatically get it to add 30 hours, but it does not allow the hours to be further broken down by resource.  Does anyobody know if this is possible?

    Thanks in advance!

  • nic311,

I assume you tried an import map and indeed that will only import total actual hours per resource. To get the breakdown you desire will require a VBA macro. So yes, it is possible and depending on how your Excel data is set up, the code shouldn't be all that complex, but it isn't trivial.

    Hope this helps.
