Project 2007 - Working with Multiple projects in a Master Project File - Sending someone an individual project file, some of the completion dates and tasks durations change on other computers. RRS feed

  • Question

  • so i have a few projects linked to other projects.

i also have all the projects set in a master project file.

Typically i open up each project and update the status.  I verify in the master file that all the projects are showing accurate completion dates.

When i send these individual project files out, there are two of the projects where the other people are seeing different durations on some of the tasks in the file and hence different completion dates.

I dont understand why this is happening.

  • Are they using the same version of MS Project as you are?  Is it always the same two projects?  Does it occur with all users or just some?

  • By same version we also mean same Service Pack level as well.

Do you ever over-write your file copies with changed copies from other users? If so you probably have a corrupted file. Don't ever rename, move or over-write sub-projects and keep them on a local server with a 99.99% reliable network, not on a WAN.
