Windows Defender signature updates on non-persistent disk RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm currently testing Windows Defender on Windows Server 2016 to replace Symantec Endpoint Protection. However, since we're using Citrix Provisioning Services with non-persistent disks the Windows Update service is disabled. Because of this Windows Defender doesn't update its signatures.

I've been Googling and found a workaround to schedule: MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate but this task fails as well if Windows Update service is stopped and disabled. When I set it to manual it starts the service then successfully updates the signatures.

Any idea how to automatically update signatures without having to start the Windows Update service?
