configure the default managed path RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there  - is there any way to configure the default managed path that appears on the Create site Collection page in Central Admin?

We have several managed paths and I want it to default to a specific one and instead it seems to default to the last one created

    Cheers

  • Hi,

There is no way to change this from the GUI.

You can try editing the createsite.aspx page directly on the server.  The control is SiteNameOptionChanged, you should be able to follow it from there.  Just keep in mind it pulls from an index id and if that changes then this will probably not work as you intended since the index is generated on the fly.

As a general rule, we do not recommend making changes to this file since the potential for causing failures down the road increases after modifying system files.

  • You could remove all of the managed paths and recreate them in the reverse order (or at least delete the manged path that you want as a default and then recreate it).

In all seriousness though, I 'm not aware of a method to specify the "default" managed path. The create site collection page is a page to which you don't really have any ability to configure. In theory you could edit the page but doing so is not a good idea (any future updates could obliterate your change; it could also impact your ability to upgrade).

  • Thanks for responding Jason, I was thinking about trying to edit the page somehow (looked at it in SPD) but I think it's just not a good idea for the reasons you stated - and I couldn't see how I could do it anyway

And I think I won't delete and recreate all my managed paths ;-)

I might find myself a bit unpopular!
