  • i bought windows 7 ultimate full with product key for my main pc

    a laptop i purchased from hp came with windows 7 pro there was no media supplied the hard drive failed so i didnt have win 7 pro to install

    i was told by a techie to remove that cfg file from my win 7 disc so i could install win 7 pro on my laptop with my product key that was for my windows 7 professional on the bottom of the laptop

    worked perfectly

    i couldnt find anyway of buying just the disc

  • Well, I guess you're still legal as long as it installed and activated with your OEM key.

    But... HP supplies a utility with each computer to create the recovery disks; this should have been one of the first things you did when you set up your laptop originally.  Still, you seem to be in the majority - most people don't do this, or don't even realize they should until it's too late.  In which case a call to HP support would have yielded a set of recovery disks for a small shipping fee...
