Configuration failed. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

When I try and configure Monitoring Server with the configration manager, it goes through all the steps, then rollsback and give me this message

    Configuration failed.

Error 1:  Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified

I have a dell machine with vista business

Any body know how to resolve this.  I have uninstalled the .net framework. sql server 2005 and reinstalled them both but that has not helped

    regards

  • Hi Nikki,

Vista Business is supported for Client component (Dashboard Designer) not for Server.   Please take a look into this link for additional information  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb838753.aspx

    Thank you,

I was just looking in the ReadMe file for SP2, http://office.microsoft.com/download/afile.aspx?AssetID=AM103381121033, and apparently it states the following:

You cannot deploy Monitoring Server on Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems.

Although you can use computers that are running Windows XP or Windows Vista to develop or preview applications for Monitoring Server, you must deploy Monitoring Server on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008.

    Workaround:   None.

So the System Requirements link that is on the link I provided above appears to be incorrect.  I have not actually tried installing it on Vista, but assumed that based on the requirements and the information I provided in the links above that it would be possible.  I guess I will have to walk through the steps and try myself, but according to the ReadMe file this must not be supported.

I went back to the Rational Guide To M&A with Microsoft Office PPS 2007 book and it also stated that this would be possible to install on XP or Vista OS and that you would receive a warning that WSS/MOSS wasn't installed.

I am going to try and test this out this week, but maybe it just can't be done.

  • I would make sure that you have all of the necessary requirements setup to install PPS 2007 first.  Please refer to my previous suggestions in these two forum postings and you should be able to get this setup without any issues because Vista is a supported OS if you look at the requirements http://www.microsoft.com/business/performancepoint/productinfo/systemrequirements.aspx:

    Good Luck

And there is a link in the second posting in regards to setting up Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 w/ SP1 on Vista w/ SP1 so enjoy.
