SQL DB issue - a Primary site under CAS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

SCCM 2012 latest CB environ, with a CAS and few primaries. One of primary has SQL issues where SRPOC and/or Tables aren’t functioning well. PSS has been working on to fix SQL, however two weeks spent, two more weeks expected to clean a heavy corrupted table to be cleaned up. SQL DB of old instances not helpful to restore as most of old snapshot observed to have same problem. We have had SQL issues in the past, tried many work arounds, which I assume has corrupted some tables or SPROC or so on… HENCE

My question now is, is it possible to install a fresh SQL server instance on primary and get it going, with assumption of restore the site data from CAS, and Inventory, status messages etc. will come back again from clients…instead of waiting for two more week of troubleshooting ? I think of this, hoping SQL from fresh install will have all in working condition and in good setup in terms, but any idea on how to do this or sort of key steps involved in it

    Thanks, Vasu

  • Since you are already working with css on the problem. You should talk to them about this question. Taking suggestions from the forums while working with css, is a bad idea.

I forget if in cm12 you can restore from a cas, you can in cmcb, but if the cas is healthy then it should work. Again your css team are the best people to talk to about this as they know your environment.

Why would it take 4 week to restore your site? If you started the restore today you should be done in a day or two.

Restoring to the site without talking to them could mean that you are back EXACTLY where you are today. CSS also has seen many issue with respect to restore and can help you avoid them.

  • Its not site that is being restored now, it is SQL syscommit table or activity which has trillions of records pending that supposed to be cleaned on regular basis by SQL itself, that failed and clean up activity is on now, learnt this table needs at least a week to clean, however before this it was another issue / WSUS info related SPROC was culprit...hence I am afriad what else might come even after fixing thest two by EOD this week.

Site restore option was discussed but concluded not useful in this context, hence was ruled out by experts

Thanks for your time and views, suggestions Jason, as always, very helpful
