Group Policy Client Service Crashing starting 11/10/2015 - 11/13/2015?

    Question

  • We recently had around 150 PCs that the Group Policy Client service just started crashing on while users try to login.  We noticed the majority of them on Friday 11/13/2015 and its been a continual problem.

Originally I found this event that the GP Client service crashed

Faulting application name: svchost.exe_gpsvc, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc3c1
Faulting module name: msvcrt.dll, version: 7.0.7601.17744, time stamp: 0x4eeb033f
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000029f80
    Faulting process id: 0x54c
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d120a6dfd3f28c
    Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\msvcrt.dll
    Report Id: b0582230-8c9a-11e5-b6f9-d4bed99f7bd5

msvcrt.dll is part of the C++ 2010 redistributable so I uninstalled and re-installed that but then I started getting this message.

Faulting application name: svchost.exe_gpsvc, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc3c1
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.19045, time stamp: 0x56259295
    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Faulting process id: 0x194
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d12146bbfc8ac0
    Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    Report Id: 07a4154b-8d3c-11e5-abce-00215a70b373
ntdll.dll is something totally different and so I found some recent problems with version 6.1.7601.19045.

At that point I uninstalled all the patches deployed on 11/11/2015 and tried again but Im still having issues.  Group Policy Client service appears to be crashing while its applying Registry policy and when a user tries to login the system says that the Event Management Service is not working and that users are not allowed to login.

Not even sure where to go from here.  The last GPO change we made was on 11/10/2015 and was working fine for days before this happened on 11/13/2015.
