Kernel Power Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

First off, I´m dont know that much about computers, only what 12 years of using a computer has taught me but this problem is out of my league. So bear with me please:)

Also, i have a condition that i dont know the name of in English, it makes it hard for me to pay attention and makes it really hard for me to make such a long "article". So please just ask if i missed anything or typed something wrong :)

I have a problem that includes crashes and bluescreens. Event log calls it Kernel Power ID 41. I´m going to start at the beginning and tell you the events that occurred that led me to this post.

It all started a little over a month ago when i decided to upgrade some of the parts in my computer. That included a new motherboard (gigabyte p55a-ud3), a new processor (i5-760) and 2x2gb memory chips to add to my already in-place 2x2gb. After installing these three parts i formatted the computer and after a new setup the problems started. The computer started freezing randomly at any time, no matter what i was doing, if anything, but it was more likely if the computer was under stress, or so it showed. I had to restart the computer with the button on the case to solve this, this error was Kernel Power ID 41. After a lot of googling and reading i had come to a conclusion that this was due to the memory chips so i tried to swap the chips around and this finally stopped when i had only the 2 new memory chips in the computer, so i figured that the old once just didn´t match up with the new motherboard. ( the problem still existed when just the old once were in use ) (I formatted again after this happened to rule out bad setup)

The computer was fine after that until yesterday when i was playing Battlefield: bad company 2, the computer froze and bluescreened after 15-20 minutes of playing (this has happened multiple times now). Whats different with this error is that it only happends when the i play battlefield (it might happend in other games but so far i´ve only played battlefield) and the computer bluescreens now but not before. This is also Kernel Power ID 41

So naturally i think back of what i´ve been doing recently that might change the behavior of the computer.

    1. It may be a coincidence but it seemed that it all started after installing Test Drive: Unlimited 2 (which sucked:þ). The game refused to open in fullscreen and when i changed to 1920x1080 resolution the screen went out of range for a few sec and came back with a pop-up message that my video driver stopped responding and has recovered. (my screen is a 24" BENQ and can handle that resolution). I checked if my driver was up to date and it wasn´t, a recent 266 nvidia driver was released and i installed it and it didnt fix anything.

    2. I also activated my operating system (win7) with a software i think is illegal (and please dont flame me for this, win7 costs WAY to much where i am from, 1/3 of the price of my cheap car to be exact-ish) and that all went to plan, but maybe it did something?

Beside that i dont think i´ve done much.

But now i´m gonna stop typing and start linking stuff that might be important.

  • Please download memtest86+ [1], burn a new bootable CD (use a CD-RW if possible) from the ISO (download and use ImgBurn [2][3] to do this or make double click on the ISO in Windows 7), reboot your PC and scan your RAM 4-5hours for errors. If it detects errors, replace the faulty RAM.

If the memtest tells no error, please download CPU-Z [4], look in the memory and SPD tab and verify that the current RAM Speed and the Timings match to the values that you see in the SPD tab. If your RAM run at CR (Command Rate) 1T, change the value into 2T in the BIOS.

  • I see you have Sound Devices Realtek.

Update this Device. Check all others against Net.

I resolve my similar case that way.

    Lucky.
