Installer does not work in a VM? RRS feed

  • This seems absurd, but it seems that the Project Server 2010 installer just doesn't work if you are trying to install it on a VM.  I'm using Hyper-v, have my server VM all set and ready, but the install links on the installer page do nothing.  I mean nothing.  No error, no event, nothing.  On a normal server the installer launches fine, but on the VM both the prereq and project install links just don't do anything.  Is there actually something in place to prevent this product from being used on a virtual server?  That seems absurd if we are required to run a dedicated piece of hardware for this, but I'm not seeing any other reason why the installer simply does nothing if run on a VM...

  • Actually it turns out the answer is the installer is poorly writen and just silently fails if used on 2008 instead of 2008R2.  I had not read the requirements closely to see it needed 64bit, and since the installer fails without notice as to why...
