  • Hi,

The steps can be found in the DPMv3OperationsGuide.docx at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff833813.aspx page 220.

Setting Up Protection on a Secondary DPM Server

    1.   Install the protection agent on the primary DPM server.

    2.   Use the Create New Protection Group Wizard to add the primary DPM server to the protection group.

    3.   When you expand the primary DPM server, you can select to protect the DPM database (DPMDB) and all the computers protected on it. When you expand the protected computers, you will see System Protection if either BMR or System State is enabled for them.

    Note

On the secondary DPM server, the wizard does not differentiate between BMR and System State. If either is protected it will appear as System Protection.

    Important

We strongly recommend that you protect the DPMDB on the secondary DPM server.

    Warning

If your primary DPM server is protecting a SharePoint farm, you must make sure that you give the secondary server enough time to back up the primary server before the next back up is triggered. Using the Modify Protection Group Wizard, you can define when you want your back up to start.

  • Hi Eniac,

I think you are looking for a new feature in DPM 2010 called DPM Chaining. It offers cyclic protection of your DPM servers by using DPM servers to protect each other in a chain. An example of this would be taking two DPM servers and installing the agent on each other.  This describes it more: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg410636.aspx .
