Windows 10 - Pin My Documents, Downloads, Pictures etc... to start menu RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to create a customised start menu to pin certain folders to the start menu for all users.

    I want to be able to pin Documents, Downloads etc... to the start menu but nothing i have tried has worked. when i logon as a new user the area i was hoping it would show in the start menu is empty. Has anyone been able to do this? i have been able to do this with IE 11.

    I have tried the below but all that shows is just the my computer icon

    <start:Group Name="Folders" xmlns:start="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/StartLayout">
              <start:DesktopApplicationTile Size="2x2" Column="0" Row="2" DesktopApplicationID="%userprofile%\Desktop" />
              <start:DesktopApplicationTile Size="2x2" Column="0" Row="0" DesktopApplicationLinkPath="C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu Places\Documents.lnk" />
              <start:DesktopApplicationTile Size="2x2" Column="4" Row="0" DesktopApplicationLinkPath="C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu Places\Downloads.lnk" />
              <start:DesktopApplicationTile Size="2x2" Column="2" Row="0" DesktopApplicationLinkPath="C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu Places\Pictures.lnk" />
              <start:DesktopApplicationTile Size="2x2" Column="2" Row="2" DesktopApplicationID="Microsoft.Windows.Computer" />

  • so it looks like the actual .lnk file name is not quite what you see in Windows Explorer? There are numbers at the beginng of the name. I still dont understand why we can add DesktopApplicationLinkPath="%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Internet Explorer.lnk" /> but the equivalent wont work for a folder shortcut? Unless i am doing something wrong or folder shortcuts are just not possible?
