FIM URL to open Join Group page directly RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

is there any way we could directly open the Join Group page with the selected group? basically we wanted to send email to the users with the link for group subscriptions [for specific group]. we can launch the group search page with the group filtered using the direct URL. but is there any trick we could do to launch the Join Group page directly? so that users will just submit the page to join the group.

when i looked at the Join Group link [in FIM 2010], it uses a cacheID [passed thru previous page selection] and it changes every time. since we want to send emails thru outlook client [distribution groups] it is good to have a  direct URL to open the Join Group page.

I'm guessing this is not a product limitation may be some Sharepoint configurations can do the trick?

Does FIM R2 offer this feature?

  • This could be achieved by passing all the information to a custom page that would create the Page.Cache object with a unique GUID.  Then you could perform a redirect to the Join.aspx page with the created guid for the CacheID querystring parameter.

You would probably need to use Reflection on the Microsoft.IdentityManagement.ObjectIdentity assembly on your redirect page to build the proper structure of the StoredObjects to set the DisplayName, TypeName and Id  properties before the Redirect response is issued.

It would be a bit of work and some custom coding, but it could be done.
