How to upgrade to IE 11 using powershell RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, IE 10 is running on win7.  I need to upgrade IE from 10 to 11 using powershell. When I manually upgraded it, I turned on the IE 11 service from control panel----program. Then could anybody tell me how to do it from powershell? Thanks so much.

  • IE 11 is not turned on.  It is an upgrade for machines with an OS that supports IE 11. Post in t eh IE forum to learn how to mange IE and what machines it is available for.

  • I installed all packages, and then issue:

     $arguments= "[/quiet][/update-no][norestart]"

         Start-Process  -FilePath $ie11tobe -ArgumentList  $arguments -PassThru

but only the 'Internet Explore 11 setup command line switches' is opened.

So what's the correct way to install it using powershell?

    $arguments='/quiet /update-no norestart'

The square brackets maen that the argument is optional.  We do not include them.

  • i tried :

    Start-Process $ie11tobe -ArgumentList "/passive /norestart /update-no" -Wait -verbose

although no error is reported, the IE still is not installed. I restarted my windows, IE still is IE 10. Don't know why :(

Yes. It said: start installing ie. but I waited for a while ,and found ie11 is not installed. I think this is the correct command to install IE. But don't know why the install failed.

  • Possibly damaged file, current installation or wrong version.

You will need too troubleshoot and fix this.
