  • Any reason why you are using web services?  Is the homepage a page in SharePoint?  Normally if you have SharePoint context you would use a ListViewWebPart, Content Query WebPart or a custom webpart which uses the API.

  • If you are developing a feature / component to be used on the SharePoint server you can use the API.  If you need to run on another server without SharePoint installed you need to use Web Services.

You can download the SharePoint SDK here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6D94E307-67D9-41AC-B2D6-0074D6286FA9

Can you explain in detail your requirements?

  • Hi Dave,
Thanks again. I am working on a intranet portal. My requirment is to add a feature that shows news and anounsment on the portal home page. There should be a way to add news to the portal. Any user should see the news titles and small discription(first 5 lines of complete news) for each news on the home page. When user clicks the title of the news, user should see the completed news. I thinks this is clear.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Using out of box sharepoint features you can display the news and set the restriction of lines to be displayed on home page. You have to add RSS viewer webpart and provide the feed and give feed limit in webpart properties

  • If you are using MOSS you can use the content query webpart.  You may want to pull through extra properties, these are done by creating a custom item style http://www.heathersolomon.com/blog/articles/CustomItemStyle.aspx

  • Hi all,
I am a fresh to sharepoint. When I tried the RSS aproach I couldn't find link for RSS feed. When I tried Content Query aproach I could't create news site and I could see only the title of the news. may be a problem with creating news article. And also I don't know how to edit the item style. Please if some one can give me a complete example. Thank for all.

  • Thanks to all,
I still have a problem. I added news items in the news page. But I couldn't see those news titles on Content Query Web Part. But in the edit mode I can see news headlines and content.

    Thanks a lot
