About Windows7 64bit- is it faster ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI

I'm considering moving to Windows 7 64-bit and I have some questions:

    1. Will it work faster than Windows 7 32bit ? (today i work on Win7 32bit)
    2. Will Oracle 11g & Visual Studio will work on it ?
    3. Do I need special hardware ? (I have Dell Latitude D520 laptop  - Intel T7200 Core 2 Duo 2.0MHz and 4G DDR2 of memory)

    Thanks in advance

  • Your questions in order:

#1.  That's subjective.  Some applications will run faster, others will run slower.  Overall, it's about the same.

    #2.  Yes to both.

#3.  Yes, but your laptop is already 64-bit capable.  In fact, you're pretty much wasting that last GB of your 4GB of RAM running a 32-bit system on it.  However, you'll need to check and insure that Dell has 64-bit Windows 7 drivers for your machine.

Note: you do realize that there's no upgrading from 32- to 64-bit, right?  You'll have to reinstall - everything.
