Installing and Uninstalling Programs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We are trying to allow our regular users without administrator rights to install programs on laptops for when they are off site.  We do not want their specific user accounts to have administrator rights but rather set up a local account that they can use the credentials from to install and uninstall programs.

The big part of it is that we only want that local account to be used as a sign in to give Administrative rights to install and uninstall programs, essentially like the power users used to be.  We do not want them to have a desktop with this sign on because they will not be using Domain Credentials and be affected by the GPO.

Does anyone know a way to set an account such as this up?  Or even to make a script that will sign out an account before it loads the desktop so that they can only use the credentials?

Thanks for all of the help!

  • Hi diazj6,

“We are trying to allow our regular users without administrator rights to install programs on laptops for when they are off site.”

First of all, whether we need administrator right to install and uninstall programs is designed by program’s vendor. Not all of programs require administrator right for install or uninstall.

If we are asked for administrator rights during installation or uninstallation process, there is no way to skip it.

So, for your question, there is no way to implement it.

Based on your situation, if you are in a domain environment and try to avoid regular domain account have domain administrator right, we could add this account to local administrator group then we will be able to install and uninstall programs.

    Best regards.
