Exam 70-177 And 70-178 (Microsoft Project Server 2010) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I am a certified PMP and wanted to do following certifications.

    70-177
    Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuring
    http://www.microsoft....aspx?id=70-177

    70-178

    Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects
    http://www.microsoft....aspx?id=70-178

What will be good point to start? Any books and mocks that you will recommend!?

By the way if you go to 70-177 link I posted above, you will see that it has TS written before exam name. While in second link TS is not written. So basically it is written as TS: Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuring while in other case it is simply written as Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects. Is there a difference between having TS and not having TS written?

Secondly I am trying to find the equivalent of following exam which is very old and will retire soon.

    70-633
TS: Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, Managing Projects
    http://www.microsoft...33&locale=en-us

So basically 70-633 is about Microsoft Project Server 2007 while 70-178 is about Microsoft Project 2010. Or may be they are same but named differently? What I want to know when can we expect similar exam for Microsoft Project Server 2010?

    Thanks

  • Hi there--

Exam 70-632 use Microsoft Office Project Standard 2007 or Microsoft Office Professional 2007 standalone desktop features (excluding Project Server features) to build, maintain, and control well-formed project plans.

Exam 70-178 exam use Project Standard 2010 and Project Professional 2010 desktop features (excluding Project Server features) to manage a project schedule and communicate the project to individuals, teams, and the enterprise.

based on the above, both are same interms of covering the knowledge area of MS project (Std & Pro) but for different products version.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi,

    For books I recommend:

Microsoft Project 2010 Step by Step for the exam Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects.
Implementing and Administering Microsoft Project Server 2010 for Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuring.

Both great books that helped me pass my exams.

    With Kind Regards,

  • Thanks for the explanation. If both exams are for standalone Microsoft Project (Std or Pro) and not Microsoft Project Server then which exam covers using Microsoft Project (Std or Pro) with Microsoft Project Server?

  • Hi there--

First of all I missed one of your question, "Is there a difference between having TS and not having TS written?" - The answer is NO & both teh exams are as "Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)".

Project Server 2010 can be used only with MS project 2010 Professional (Not Std). there is no specific exam for using MS project Pro with project server.

    Hope that helps.
