Skype for Business 2016 Licensing and Office Standard 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I wanted to know how you license Skype for Business 2016 if you already have Office 2010 Standard installed, I see you can install Skype for business as standalone below but I thought Skype used the local office license which I know Skype is not included with Office 2010 Standard edition.

    Thank You

  • Hi Daeus,

For licencing its probably best to check with your licencing provider / Microsoft LAR. Im not a licencing expert so recommend checking but i think you would need to purchase skype for business client licences as its not included in office 2010 as you say..

The Lync 2013 licencing guide is a great guide explaining licencing which applies to Skype for Business. User cals are user or device based and theres standard, enterprise and plus cals which depends on the functionality you want to deploy, this is explained in more details in the doc below.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks, In the past I have licensed Skype with Pro Plus which was already installed, but in this case Standard 2010 does not include a Skype for Business license, I think if I went this route Skype gets licensed when it connects to the Skype Server if I hosted that also but I cant confirm?
