Vista won't restart/shutdown RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Finally I have got RC2 up and running, but it won't restart or shutdown. The screen goes black and there is no more video input, but the computer just won't restart

I already experienced this problem during the installation phase, but when I manually reset the computer the installation completed successfully.

Anyone else with this strange no-restart/shutdown problem? Or is this the new up-time guarantee from Microsoft

    ------
    Running Vista Ultimate RC2 on:

  • Hi,

Conducted another search on the internet and found this article: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.general&tid=66f17526-a109-40d1-9d2d-2160d0309624&cat=&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&p=1

Going to try if this works and update as soon as I know more

  • The link I provided in the above post worked!

Except for this step: Browse to `Wherever you extracted your 5.30 drivers to`\drvdisk\AMD64\2003x64

As I installed de 32 bit version, I had to browse to the folder: 'drvdisk\i386\NT5'
    Figures

To work around this problem immediately during install you could load the driver(s) during the setup phase, by providing a driver disk. This actually works better, because the reboot failures during setup are also fixed this way.

It seems like the Vista drivers for VIA SATA and Promise RAID aren't really stable/ready yet. For both of the controllers I am currently using the Windows 2003 drivers.

  • I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Thought I had a faulty hard drive, spent 13hrs re loading everything onto a new drive. Could not re install using image. Downloaded the drive check tool from Seagate, turned out to be a master boot record problem. 2 hard drives in Acer plus 7 on Sans. Have you recently installed another hard drive?

  • I am not really sure why you are asking me this.... my original post is a year old and already solved...

But to answer your question: No I haven't.
