    Very recently we ran into same issue and resolved it.

    Users were getting error while accessing below links in PWA

    2.Project Server >> Resource Center  >> Select any resource >> click on view resource availability

    We resolved the issue by making below changes in Web.config file. (Please take backup of Web.config before making any changes)

    2) "add name” entry for session was missing in the module section. We added it.

    <add name="Session" type="System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule" preCondition="" />

  • Have you recently implemented any other features of project server or sharepoint?

    Have you recently done something with workflow?

    Has any new virus protection software or ForeFront identity been implemented on any of the servers?

    I am grabbing for straws, but something somewhere has changed.... can you recall anything new recently.

    Also, I think I would check out SQL server and run DBCC CheckDB on the Project and SharePoint dbs.

    Cheers

  • HI Sanjeev,

    it seems like MS Forefront is the culprit here, thats blocking the execution of the workflows. I no expert on Forefront but you will have to allow the executions of workflows from the Project Server.

    Andre, Thank you. What are the steps for allowing the execution of the workflow from the project server?

  • Sanjeev,

    Looking at your original post, no workflows should be kicking off by clicking on the 'Enterprise Custom Fields and Lookup' so I actually doubt it's ForeFront . In the case of that error, a quick search found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2432041

    As for your project server issue, please check the ULS logs (not event logs) for the correlation id outlined in your original error message. You can read more on how to do this at http://epmsource.com/2010/11/06/what-is-a-project-server-correlation-id/

    Once you have located the relevant ULS entries, please post them and we'll see if we can figure it out for you :)

  • Chris,

    Have you been able to find a solution?

    We are getting the same error and exact same log entries as you listed with the exception that I cannot locate any failed calls (like the NullRefException that you mention).

    This has been an issue for a while.  The only thing that I can think of is that we have been taking a second WFE off the farm and then adding it back on later.  I wonder if that threw things off.  We just did the same thing in Prod environment the other day, and the custom field and resource availability error started happening.  Not sure if it could be attributed to alternating number of servers in the farm, but that's the closest I can relate it to as far as actions performed.  Another possibility may be applying the December CU.  However, we haven't applied it in Prod yet.

    Would appreciate any help!
    Ilya

    Note: we are not having the FIM error that Sanjeev has been having.  Only when we try to open a custom field or check resource availability.

    Server Error in '/' Application.
    Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration>\<system.web>\<httpModules> section in the application configuration.

    We resolved the issue by making below changes in Web.config file. (Please take backup of Web.config before making any changes)

    1) Enabled Session State to True

    <pages enableSessionState="true" enableViewState="true" enableViewStateMac="true"validateRequest="false"pageParserFilterType="Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationRuntime.SPPageParserFilter, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" asyncTimeout="7">

    2) "add name” entry for session was missing in the module section. We added it.

    <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">

    <remove name="Session" />
    <add name="Session" type="System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule" preCondition="" />

    modules>

    Thanks,

    Kiran K

  • We had the same problem, and it was caused by a bad solution that modified our web.config removing the session module<add name="Session" type="System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule" />

    To fix it we have to add this module, you can do this task adding that entry in the web.config or adding the module throught the iis console.

    Thanks Kiran, you give us the key.....

  • Please GEEKS!,
    Would you think somebody posted this question might have even checked this funda?

    To all sufferers of this problem, I have my findings here!
    1. I could reproduce this issue in IE browser(IE10) and FIREFOX(22), though I have great settings of all enabled..etc.etc... in my local code, WHEN IE settings in Connection Tab --> LAN settings have "Use PROXY Server for Localhost..." checkbox shown as CHECKED - without a VALID PROXY server setting...

    When I uncheck this In IE, the same code with DEFAULT Session settings, runs like HORSE!!

    Doom to all GEEKS OUT THERE...

    But for common people, IT WAS GIVING NIGHTMARES TO ME, hope I could save a few out of yours!

    Peace!
