Optimize content search to reduce unindexed items

    Question

  • Hello-

A client of mine recently asked me to perform a content search on a relatively simple keyword - Powell.  The bulk of the results were identified as "unindexed" and were not at all applicable.  The bulk of the attachments in these e-mails are Word, Excel, and PDF, with the occasional AutoCAD DWG.  In other words, there were no "exotic" attachments.

What maintenance can I perform on the Exchange database to minimize the unindexed (useless for the most part) results?

    Thanks much!

    B

  • Did you do the search in Outlook?  If the client is in cached mode, the search would be performed against the PC's search index, so that's where you'd want to start troubleshooting.

If the client is in online mode or you're using OWA, then it's a problem with the index in Microsoft Online.  You're welcome to open a ticket with Microsoft Online Support since they own the online index.
