MP for Windows Server 2008 PercentMemoryUsed seems to be backwards RRS feed

  • Question

  • The PercentMemoryUsed performance counter for Windows Server 2008 seems to be recording backwards. It looks more like it is PercentMemoryFree. If you look at the attached screen shot you will see that the usage is high during the night when nothing is being used on the servers, and when users start using the server during the day the usage drops.

The servers are Hyper-V VMs with 16 GB dynamic memory set.

  • Hi Sir,

    >>Local performance monitor doesn't have % mem used.

Yes , but you can get the value from task manager or resmon.exe.

In addition, if you are using 2012/r2 hyper-v , please check the assigned memory for these VMs during that period of time  :

Because , "In Windows Server 2012, Dynamic Memory introduces a minimum memory setting, which allows Hyper-V to reclaim the unused memory from the virtual machines. "
