Get messages rejected by connection filter

    Question

  • We are migrating to Exchange Online Protection (EOP) and we'd like to block some messages based on the IP address using connection filter. It is also important to have a log and be able to trace messages that were rejected by this filter. The message trace tool seemed to be suitable, but as explained in the Message Trace FAQ article, searching messages rejected by connection filter is one of the limitations:

    • IP-blocked messages: Messages blocked by IP reputation block lists will be included in the spam data for real time reports, but you cannot perform a message trace on these messages.

However, it is mentioned that these messages will be included in the spam data for real time reports.

How can I get to the log of these rejected messages? Is it possible to access it from the web interface? If not, what powershell command will retrieve these information?

    Thanks for any hints.

  • As I understand it, the IP connection block drops the connection as soon as it is attempted so EOP never sees the message.
