Driver updates have multiple listings in WSUS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Server2102 R@ - Hyper-V

I separated the type of updates by category. Only in "drivers" do I see multiple instances of the same update:

How do I get this to one instance?

  • This is expected behaviour. These are different variations and are released by Microsoft. If you have email notifications enabled for the sync, you would see them in the listing when they sync.

You can also tell from the arrival date that they are different.

  • Hi JohnLenz,

Thanks for your posting on this forum.

In fact, KB number is not the only unique identity that distinguishes between different updates. UpdateId is the unique identity that distinguishes between different updates. Please refer to the screenshot below:

It is recommended to approve these updates which show "needed" on the WSUS console. I think it should be a better way.

  • OK, I see this is normal. BTW, I looked at history at the one system multiples were approved for and only saw one installed of the multiples.

  • Hi JohnLenz,

    Thanks for your response.

BTW, I looked at history at the one system multiples were approved for and only saw one installed of the multiples.
To avoid misunderstandings, I understand the above description as follows:
You approve multiple drivers for a system, but the client installs only one of them. Is that right?

In my opinion, the client will only install the updates it needs. Some drivers are not installed, possibly because the client does not need these updates.

Thanks for your time. Hope you have a nice weekend.

    Regards,
    Rita

  • Still getting multiple listing off SAME driver to SAME system. I understand that is normal so all I will do is approve all. The client system only applies one of them.

  • Hi JohnLenz,

    Thanks for your response.

It seems that the client only needs only one driver update. The client will only install the needed updates.

    Rita
