ADMX and ADM file

    Question

  • Hi Team,

    1) Can anyone tell about the difference between ADMX and ADM file ?

    2) What is the need for store these file on client machine ?

  • 1) the files perform the same function/purpose, but, .ADM is the original/legacy file-format, and, .ADMX/.ADML is the XML-format introduced with WinVista/2008.

    2) Admin Templates (ADM/ADMX/ADML) are only used for displaying information within GPResults/RSoP/GPedit/GPMC.
    Admin Templates are not used in the execution of "applying settings" at all.
    Because machines might be needing to perform any of these functions, at any time, the meaningful display information is helpful.
