How DPM server connected to Library RRS feed

  • Question

  • DPM server is having 02 FC ports and 01 Ethernet port

Want to take backup of servers :: Some having FC ports and some having only Ethernet ports

IBM Library is having 02 FC ports and 01 Ethernet ports.

Please let me know How do I make the physical connectivity.

What I am thinking at this moment is ::1.) Lets connect DPM FC ports to Fiber switch along with servers  which having FC ports

and Library FC ports are also terminated to this Fiber switch and I'll Zone all WWNs together.

2.) Connect DPM server ethernet port to Ethernet Switch along with servers which only having Ethernet ports also terminate Libarary ethernet ports with the same Ethernet switch and Put them all togethet in same VLAN.

Please suggest does it work ?? I mean do my library work for the scenerio what I have erxplianed above.

  • Hi Christine,

    - Ethernet ports
put all Ethernet to switch in same VLAN.
Note: the library ethernet port is not used for backup, only to manage it
I cannot give you library specific instructions

    - FC ports
This is only needed to acces SAN based storage and tape library to backup.
    Zoning all WWN's together is not a good idea;
     - zone tape and DPM together in separate zone
     - zone DPM and disks it needs together (yes, DPM FC now belongs to multiple zones)
     - zone other servers with only the disks they need not combined with the above.
