UAG with Directaccess and Remote Desktop Publishing: RD Gateway not available RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

please help me with this problem, I'm geting crazy.

I have UAG installed and successfully configured Directaccess.

With a https trunk i try to publish my Remote Desktop Farm (3rd external IP, not the DA IPs), but the following error occurs every time a start an Application or remote desktop via the portal:

    Remote Gateway Server not available.

I can't see any connections in the RD Gateway manager on UAG.

The only configuration I've done in RD Gateway Manager is selecting the external SSL certificate and adding the RD Gateway Server farm member (with Trunk public name)

    All services are started.

I don't know where to fix this problem? I can't see where the connection is dropped??

Is it possible to publish RDS together with Directaccess on one UAG? As i saw in this thread people are having problems:

    Please help!

    Thanks.

  • Hi GWNetworking,

    thanks for your answer, interesting.

This will be my last test before opening a Support Call, but as you said, i don't think this is the exact issue. My customer doesn't use a load balancer.

At the moment i use a 2nd UAG as a workaround for rds publishing, works fine.

I'll keep all of you informed.

    Thanks.

  • Update:

    This is strange!

I installed a second UAG and published my RDS Farm via https trunk, works like a charm, no problems.

I configured the trunk exactly like before on the Directaccess UAG.

Why is this not working together with Directaccess?

Microsoft or someone else, please provide information!!!

with a legitimate reason my customer asks why it's necessary to buy a second UAG?

    Thanks.

  • I have a couple of customers with a single UAG server running both DirectAccess and RemoteApps publishing, so it is technically possible...

I assume you are using UAG SP1?

  • Hi,

yes UAG with SP1 and Update 1

I can't see any connections in the RD Gateway manager on the Directaccess UAG, therefore I think the whole traffic is blocked somewhere?

    What can I do?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Christian,

I'm just in the middle of a UAG/DA build and I had exactly the same issue, although I don't think the cause will be the same it may provide a pointer to help you resolve it...

We have a 4 server UAG Array with an external F5 Load Balancer, I found that when the persistence on the Load Balancer was set to "SSL session" (i.e. all SSL sessions with the same session ID go to the same UAG Server) I would get this exact error. If I changed the persistence method to Source IP (i.e. all traffic from the same source IP goes to the same UAG Server) then the issue was resolved.

Like I say, based on what you've said, I don't this we have the same issue but maybe there's something here that will help with regards to SSL sessions...
