drives continually re-enabling in device manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello, we have a problem with Windows 7 in that we have card readers installed internally on most of our machines, these drives have to be disabled in Windows as they take drive letters, therefore some network drives do not connect.  I have disabled them many times in device manager but after a couple of restarts they, re-enable themselves again with no explanation.

Is there a way I can disable these permanently without having to open every machine and disconnect the hardware physically?

    Thanks in advance,

    John

Answers

  • Have you tried disabling the USB enhanced controller that the USB card readers are attached to?

In the device manager, select the View tab and devices by connection to determine which one.
