how to give access to special tasks owners? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have about 100 tasks in an academic project,

I created the msp file. but....

I want to give access to each of my students to their own tasks. no one should see the other tasks or change permission for editing %Complete&Status&Comments. just these 3 field should be editable for allowed users.

the authentication should be get from Active Directory login.

for example Mr.Moris just can edit %Complete&Status&Comments fields in task ID 20,77,90.

    Is it possible?

  • hello Ysf1362

This is not possible because the file security is maintained on the MPP file, which means accessing all the tasks or nothing.

You posted this question in the project server forum.  When you said that you created a MSP file, did you really mean that you create and published a project schedule in project server/online?

  • Hello,

In standalone project this isn't possilble out of the box (it might be possible to lock it down with VBA etc.) but if you have Project Server / Project Online then you can provide this capability using the Project Web App feature which is the browser based tool for Project Server / Project Online.

  • in fact We have a project server in our department. but our network admin said that we could only give access to all of a project or no access. not for each task!

my summery tasks and children are not capable of dividing to sub-projects and.....

some one told me I should develop my own code in for example VBA or C# and use a reader API to do my idea. but I want to use Microsoft provided advantages as much as possible without programming.

  • With Project Server the users assigned to the tasks can use the Tasks page in PWA to submit the task updates to the task Status Managers to accept / reject into the projects. From your first post, this sounds like it would satisfy your requirements.
