Bare-metal recovery of a W2k8 server fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Bare-metal recovery of a specific server fails with this error:

    Affected area: Computer\System Protection
    Occurred since: 16-11-2010 15:34:06
Description: The recovery jobs for System Protection Computer\System Protection that started at dinsdag 16 november 2010 15:34:05, with the destination of <recovery file share>, have completed. Most or all jobs failed to recover the requested data. (ID 3111)
DPM encountered an error while performing an operation for D:\WindowsImageBackup\ on <DPM server> (ID 2033 Details: The system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003))

Restores of other datasources / servers on the same DPM server succeed. I suspect that the replica / recovery points of that particular datasource are corrupt, even though DPM shows them as valid in the recovery area. Is there a way to check this or repair it?

    Thanks and regards,

    Klaus

  • Klaus,

    D:\WindowsImageBackup\ must already exist.
You should be able to see the VHD below ..\Volumes\Replica\...

    To copy manually and test it must create something like;

    D:\WindowsImageBackup\Backup 2010-mm-dd HHMMSS\<here goes VHD's>
But you should see similar tree in DPM and can copy entire "\WindowsImageBackup\Backup..."'  tree

  • Hi Ruud,

thanks for your reply. The strange thing is that the details of the replica path in DPM show this:

    Computer\System Protection\Bare Metal Recovery on mgmt-srv03.management.int C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\Non VSS Datasource Writer\vol_6b8cf16f-1694-4bcb-a81a-04ebd30ebeeb\2b55abc6-98b4-4e95-ad98-64faede36b0e\Full\D-Vol\

Whereas when I browse the volume, only a C-Vol exists, no D-Vol:

    Directory of C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\Non VSS Datasource Writer\vol_6b8cf16f-1694-4bcb-a81a-04ebd30ebeeb\2b55abc6-98b4-4e95-ad98-64faede36b0e\Full

    08-06-2010  15:06    <DIR>          .
    08-06-2010  15:06    <DIR>          ..
    25-11-2010  21:00    <DIR>          C-Vol
    25-11-2010  22:21             4.062 DatasetContextInformation.xml
                   1 File(s)          4.062 bytes
                   3 Dir(s)  56.865.824.768 bytes free

Maybe this is caused because a while ago we had moved the WindowsImageBackup directory on the production server to the D-drive (configured in the PSDataSourceConfig.xml file) due to insufficient disk space on the C-drive.

    Regards,

    Klaus

  • DPM 2012 BMR Errors when trying to restore

The solution is to either put the BMR back on that other drive by editing PSDataSourceConfig.xml, or rip out all protection of that server and start over.  And this time edit PSDataSourceConfig.xml before you connect the client to the DPM server…

DPM2010 restore of BMR failed with error (ID 3111), (ID 2033 Details: The system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003))
