Windows Installation Options RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Are there any plans for this to become an MSI or something which can be managed more simply with deployment tools?  We currently deploy R and R Studio using SCCM and AppV but both are a nightmare to keep on top of for our many thousands of users.  I'd love to switch to R Open if it had some more enterprise friendly options.  One issue which can be a problem is the location of libraries.  I'd like to R Open to follow standard Windows methods like putting user data under AppData in the users profile rather than storing items in a new directory it creates under C:\.  This is a real problem in shared computing environments (RDS, hot desking).

    Thanks

  • Hi Alan,

Starting from R Open 3.3.1, the installer is MSI based. Please check if it meets your deployment requirements.

    Thanks,

    Carl

This is much better since 3.3.1.  Temporary downloads of packages sit in appdata/local and the packages are installed into the users documents folder.  As the documents folder roams with users it appears to be problem solved!
