USB 3.0 on SBS 2011 Standard RRS feed

  • Question

  •    There have been a lot of threads on this issue but I couldn't find any real help. It still appears as though USB 3.0 is not supported on any Server 2008 OS or on SBS 2011. I have looked at a lot of USB 3.0 card manufacturers and they do not conain drivers for server operating systems.

I have tried SIIG JU-P20412-S2 cards on 2003 Standard, 2008 R2 and SBS 2011 and even through the drivers is not written for those OSs it installs anyway. USB 3.0 is fantastic! I use Acronis BR10 to back up servers and USB 3.0 cuts the time in half over USB 2.0 but is just cincerns me that there are no certified drivers for USB 3.0 and server operating systems.

I put this SIIG back in my SBS 2011 server and it started BSODing during backups. My guess is a driver issue because I can put in in a Win 7 and it runs like a champ. ANyway.. I guess the real question is why no USB 3.0 manufacturer has drivers for server OSs. Has anyone come across a USB 3.0 manufacturer that has server drivers? Any ideas why my SBS 2011 might be BSODing?

  • Ziggy,

I have successfully used the HighPoint 1144A USB 3.0 card in HP ML350 G5/G6, DL360 G7, Dell T310 and T410. Disregard the missing driver in device manager, the card will still work and have the proper thoughput.

SBS 2008, SBS 2011 and Server 2008 R2 on those servers too.

  •    Well... it appears as though it is a conflict with the Intel S1200BTL motherboard and the SIIG USB 3.0 controller. I have used the SIIG in about 4 or 5 different Intel server boards but it just doesn't like the S1200BTL. I got in a StarTech and life is good again. Thanks for all the feedback.
