DPM2012 backup for exchange 2010, concerns -- circular logging is to be disabled RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi team, I read some article regarding dpm backup....in order for DPM backup to be reliable, circular logging is to be disable under normal run state, while my exchange server admin team has some concerns to disable the circular logging. any advice why it has to be disabled,  and what issue it may cause if circular logging is disabled?  if it has to be so, any links on how to disable the logging? is it the same as DB's transaction log concept? will it affect the DAG 's DB  log?  thanks

Thanks and best regards, -- KF

  • Hi

Circular logging flushes the logs, DPM wont be able to backup Exchange as it will be in an inconsistent state, hence you need to turn it off for DPM to do backups. Each time a backup is done through DPM the logs will be flushed (on full backup). Thus if you have both running you might not be able to mount your DB after a reboot etc. because the logs are inconsistent.
