Std Client Upgrade Task Seq fails to upgrade WIndows 7 to Windows 10( breaking during upgrade windows step of MDT 2013 Update 1) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade windows 7 to windows 10 through MDT 2013 update 1 Std client upgrade task sequence. It works fine on a set of Image which has certain customization in lab environment. But when I try to upgrade the Enterprise Image through the same Task sequence it fails without prompting any error(Just goes away) during upgrade windows step. I was wondering if there is any logs which I could to check to find the reason of failure. I already checked BDD.log but found nothing except below given error.

  • Look in your panther logs directory.  There should be files named similar to CompatData_2015_09_30_12_32_09_3_006f0018.xml.

In those files look for something like:

    <Program Name="Symantec Endpoint Protection" Id="000045fdb82c758a7c10dd75309045d0083600000904" IconId="000045fdb82c758a7c10dd75309045d0083600000904"><CompatibilityInfo BlockingType="Hard" StatusDetail="UpgradeBlockUntilUpdate" /><Action Name="AutoUninstall" Link="wsc:wica:_000045fdb82c758a7c10dd75309045d0083600000904" DisplayStyle="Link" ResolveState="NotRun" /></Program>

As you can see it is a Windows 10 setup Hard block for compatibility reasons.  Resolve issue by upgrading to a supported version or uninstalling the application.

Most important details are logs. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/

  • According to this list of error messages:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/upgrade-install-errors-windows-10

This error might mean that an incompatible app installed on your PC is blocking the upgrade process from completing. Check to make sure that any incompatible apps are uninstalled and then try upgrading again.

So I guess you need to figure out what application is incompatible.
