Project Manager must request permission to book a resource RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a project in our company where a PM must get approval from a resources boss to work any hours in the other team's project. I figured maybe I could set it up where the Project Manager who is booking time to this resource can book their hours and it would then go to the resources boss to either approve or reject through PWA; is this possible? I tried making the employees boss the assignment owner, but that just sends an email alert. I would like to take that one step further and get it to got through approval.

    Hi Derek,

    A way around:

You can achieve this functionality by putting ‘Booking Type’ of a resource as 'Proposed' rather then committed. Using this method, resource time will be booked as projected. That resource manager can access the project plan and level the resources based on circumstances.

After you get approval from resources boss, you can change the resource booking type to "committed" and publish the project.

You can read more on Booking:

An alternative to the sound advice given by AAA would be to use a Generic resource and then have the resource manager replace the Generic resource with a designated human resource using the Build Team feature in the Project Center.  On the other hand, the feature you are describing (an accept/reject process for the RM in Project Server 2010) does not exist.  So, instead, you should use either the technique described by AAA or the other technique described by me.  Hope this helps.
