HKCU Group Policy registry preference item not being created - HKEY Default created only

    Question

  • Hello,

I'm trying to apply a registry setting which restricts PST growth (as described here - https://mikecrowley.wordpress.com/2012/01/30/dealing-with-pst-files/). I can create this key manually and it works fine.

The problem is that I'm struggling with GPO deployment, I've tried configuring the correct key as shown below using a Group Policy preference registry item in both the user and computer portion of the GPO.

If I run a GPO modelling wizard or Gpresult against my target machine it shows the GPO applied with 0 errors.

The key is correctly created under:

    hkey_users\.default\software\microsoft\office\14.0\Outlook\PST

The key is NOT created under

    hkey_current_user\default\software\microsoft\office\14.0\Outlook\PST

I need the registry setting to apply to HKCU as otherwise it will not work. So far, I haven't been able to find out why the key applies under default, but not HKCU
