Dangling VirtualHardDiskConfiguration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an ongoing problem where Library Updates are failing.  The reason for this issue is a dependency on a hard disk resource.

I've discovered that the hard disk resource has a library dependency (6 of them) of a VirtualHardDiskConfiguration which don't look to be associated with any actual disk

How can I get rid of these stray VirtualHardDiskConfigurations?

  • If you have used a VM template to deploy VMs, then those VM's disks will be shown as a dependency.
I know that I've had issues with similar stuff many years ago but I don't remember how I resolved it, one thing would be to re-create the library.

  • Hi Tony,

The best option would probably be to remove these dependencies, have a look at the article below to see if it could be of any help to you:

  • Unfortunately, these objects have no name, and no cmdlet exists to remove VirtualHardDiskConfiguration objects.

However, it does appear that a restart of the VMM server has fixed this particular problem.

I still, however, get the error:

    Error (802)
The 'VirtualHardDisk' 'Blank Disk - 100GB' is already in use by another 'VirtualHardDisk'.

So I'm not sure where to look next.

    Doing this:

    Get-SCVirtualHardDisk | ?{$_.Name -eq 'Blank Disk - 100GB.vhdx'} | Get-SCDependentLibraryResource

shows 89 dependencies, but they are all Template object type.

  • Thanks for you reply.

It looks like the problem has resolved itself now, but I have no idea why.

    Cheers,

    Tony.
