SS/BMR of 2008 R2 host puts VMs into saved state RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the following problem...

    DPM 2010

    SERVER1 = Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (SP1), Hyper-V role with 4 VMs running (3 are linux/unix and 1 is Win2k3).

    When the Bare Metal Recovery & System State backup runs, it puts all 4 VMs into Saved State. This is obviously interrupting some important business services.

    None of my other host servers have this problem and they are all running a mix of windows/linux VMs.

    Can anyone advise why this is?

  • Hi,

    Apparently either a system component included in systemstate is on the volume containing the Guests, or the Guests are located on C: volume.  If you cannot move the Guests to a different volume, try stopping and disabling the Hyper-V writer on the Host and see if that eliminates the saved state during BMR / Systemstate backup.
