Project Server 2013 - Tasks Page An unknow error Occured RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have as issue in Tasks page, the page does not load for all users.

I have migrated the Project Server instance form Project Server 2010, I installed the latest Cumulative update for Project Server 2013 (January 2017 CU).

All pages works fine except Tasks page it gives the know error message indicating a failure in loading the view, if i clicked on "Ok" to select another view, it gives a blank page with nothing.

When i dig deeper inside the ULS logs, i found the below error

w3wp.exe (0x20D4) 0x2114 Project Server General aeby7 Exception [bucketHash:444A5F8E] Exception occured in method 'Statusing.GetMyWorkForGridJson2' System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Interfaces.ServerExecutionFault]: The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason. Any idea how can i solve this issue.

  • Finally i found the root cause of the error.

I found that the original 2010 instance has been customized for blocking users from opening Tasks page, the funny thing that the customer did not mentioned  that at all to us.

Thanks Michael your help put me in the right place to search.

  • This error often occurs when a NULL value is being returned in the grid (Timesheet or Task) and the GridJSON values to handle it.

Your next question is why is it NULL and that requires a lot of investigative work.  It occurs at times when a project is deleted yet a task or time sheet is still referencing the project.   If it is concurring with a few people, it requires querying the SQL database and seeing what records are being returned into the grid (GridJSON).   After narrowing down the possible projects or assignments it could be, sometimes the fix is simply just publishing the project again or deleting a timesheet.

  • Thanks Michael,

I published all the projects using power shell script, but still the same issue.

Do you know which stored procedure used in Tasks page?

  • thanks for update.

I wasn't even thinking in this terms of page being modified.   I assume with permissions.
