Exchange 2007 - Can you find out client/device used to send email RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Using Exchange 2007, is there any way we can take a sent email and find out what device was used in order to send the email?

We have a user who is having issues sending emails but sends from multiple devices and using the logs we wish to determine which device has been used. (iPad, Blackberry, OWA or Outlook client)

    Can this be done?

  • Hello Luke,

If user is sending emails from mobile, they can add signature , which also comes with sent from black berry and based on the phone model.

. Using message tracking you can determine from how the email is coming through internet, but it could not be possible to determine the End device from which email is received unless there is specific mobile signiture

  • Hi Luke,

I appreciate your understanding that there is no a direct way to determine IP address/device that sent out the specific email message.

As a workaround, you may check the IIS log to see when the email client is connects to; or User Monitor tool for a further analysis.

    Hope it is helpful.
