Active directory controller for the domain could not be contacted RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi First time posting, so sorry if this is in the wrong group. So I am running oracle virtual box on my computer and i have windows server 2012 installed on two virtual machines and i have windows 10 enterprise evaluation running on the other vm.

I have the two windows server 2012 vm on the domain using ethernet adapter 2 and they can ping each other. The Windows 10 vm machine however, when i try to join the domain I get the active directory controller for the domain could not be contacted. I try to ping one of the server  2012 machine and get destination host unreachable. I don't have an option on the windows 10 machine to create a ethernet 2 adapter. Wanted to see if anyone can help me out with this.

    thanks in advance

  • This sounds like a VirtualBox networking mis-configuration, which would be out of scope for this forum.

You need to assign your Windows 10 Enterprise VM to the same VirtualBox network as the 2 server VMs. (Should be bridged, host-only, or internal).  You shouldn't need to use 2 vNICs for your configuration, unless you're doing more than posted.

Probably better to post in the VirtualBox forums (https://forums.virtualbox.org/).  You'll want to include which VirtualBox network adapter you're using for all 3 VMs.
