deduplication won`t run

Hi all

i have installed our first Server 2012 now wanted to try Dedublication.

unfortunately i get an error if i run this cmd C:\Windows\System32>ddpeval.exe e:

ERROR: Evaluation not supported on system, boot or Data Deduplication enabled vo
lumes.

That is not a boot volume

That is a vmware guest with 2 TB GPT NTFS volume an 100 gb data on it

can anybody help me please?

Hi,

ddpeval.exe is a tool to evaluate potential savings when enabling the feature in windows server 2012.

Read more about the particular tool here.

By the output you've got from ddpeval it looks like you already enabled data deduplication on the E: volume.

If you want to force a deduplication job on the volume, you can do it with the Deduplication PowerShell module with the cmd line as below:

Start-DedupJob -Type Optimization -Volume E:

I know this is an old post but I ran into this issue as well and it was simply due to not running the command at an elevated command prompt.
