Installing Sharepoint server admin templates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running Windows Sever 2008 and have installed SharePoint Services 3.0.

I am trying to install the Server Admin templates using the instructions listed here:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288412%28v=office.12%29.aspx

I am putting the following into the command prompt:
    stsadm -o addsolution -filename C:\ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp

It says windows cannot find stsadm

I do see the stsadm file here however:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN\STSADM.exe

Is there something I am missing here?

  • Hi,

Add the path ?to your environment Variables Right Click on My Computer (computer) > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > System Variables  > Scroll down to path Click Edit and enter ;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN; and click OK, until you have closed all the windows.

You will now be able to run stsadm from anywhere... Note: if you have an open dos window prior to entering the path environment variable you will have to close then reopen it for the new path to take affect.

  • Thanks Ivan. That worked.

There is one other problem though.

I am trying to setup the Help Desk template following these instructions.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16664

I have done everything listed under "Installing a template"

Also under the Operations tab >> Solution management>>global configuration.
The HelpDesk shows that it is Globally Deployed.

When I go to create a site (step 5):

Complete the new SharePoint site information. In the Template Selection section, select the Application Templates tab. Any server admin templates that have been deployed will be listed here.

There is no Application Templates tab.

  • Nevermind... I restarted IIS and it showed up.
